Wooden Specs serve the functional purpose of eyeglass frames, but putting them in the same category as things you normally buy at an optical shop does not get at their true essence.  

 

They (like handmade furniture or an architect-designed house) are really about the idea of having things around you that are natural and beautiful and that evidence the hand of their maker.  Things that are practical enough to serve their function, but with practicality not their reason for being.  

 

These frames push wood to its limit, coaxing it to provide the strength and subtle curves that it would otherwise not issue at this (purposefully delicate) scale.  Not with the goal of creating a medical appliance called "glasses."  Rather, for creating a remarkable handmade item...that happens to serve the purpose of eyeglass frames.
